General Description:
This is a professional position responsible for providing musical accompaniment for rehearsals, performances, and special events in the school of music. Collaborates regularly with students and faculty. This is a security-sensitive position. Reports to assigned faculty.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Rehearses with and accompanies vocalists in regular vocal seminars.
2. Rehearses with and accompanies instrumentalist in instrumental studio recitals.
3. Serves as rehearsal accompanist for choral union and/or women's choir.
4. Serves as an accompanist for spring opera production.
5. Serves as accompanist in student convocation performances, upper-level performance barriers, faculty and guest artist recitals, new student auditions, master classes, and other performances.

Non-Essential Job Functions:
1. May substitute for other accompanists when needed.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, SFA policies and procedures.
2. Technical and musical mastery of the keyboard.
3. Strong sight-reading skills.
4. Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse body of musicians.

Bachelor's degree in collaborative piano, piano performance, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.

Experience and Training:
Three years of related experience is required. Experience accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and choir is required. Experience obtained during undergraduate and graduate studies can be considered.

Work Hours: Work hours vary, according to faculty and student rehearsal and performance schedules. Weekdays, evenings and weekends are all required at times.

Minimum Pay Rate: $40,000

Specific Job Requirements for this Posting: This position is effective September 1, 2017.

Responsibilities: Accompany vocalists and instrumentalists in weekly vocal seminar, instrumental studio recitals, monthly convocations, special events (master classes, new student auditions, etc). Serve as one of two rehearsal accompanists for spring opera production, with the possibility of accompanying one of the SFA School of Music's choirs. Additional opportunities also exist as a freelance accompanist for student degree recitals.

Qualifications: Master of Music degree in collaborative piano/piano performance preferred. DMA preferred. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, well-rounded pianist, an excellent performer, possess strong communication skills, excellent sight reading abilities and extensive experience in collaborative piano. Experience obtained during graduate studies is considered acceptable.
